Konrad Maria Engel is an internationally demanded pianist, chamber musician and piano teacher living in Hanover/Germany. Since 2007 he has a teaching position at the Hanover University of Music.
He was born in 1977 near Frankfurt/Main. When he was six years old he received his first piano lesson. Three years later he already played his first recital, at the age of eleven he had his debut as a soloist with orchestra. At national german youth competitions he won six first prices and a spezial price fort he interpretation of a contemporary work during his schooldays. In 1994 he was given the German national scholarship as one of the youngest students ever.
He began his university studies with Prof. K.-H. Kämmerling in 1996, after his pedagogical and artistic diplomas he passed the examinations as a soloist concert performer with distinction at the Hanover university of music in 2006. Many international masterclasses completed his artistic education, such as the Wilhelm-Kempff-Academy in Positano with Prof. John O'Conor. He received further lessons (solo and chamber music) from Prof. Bernhard Wetz, Gerhard Schroth (both in Frankfurt), Prof. Günter Ludwig (Cologne), Prof. W. Böttcher, Prof. Antje Weithaas (both in Berlin) and Prof. Markus Becker (Hanover).
He won numerous awards during his studies, for example two first prices at the international competition "Virtuosi per Musica di Pianoforte" and the international piano competition of the Chopin Society Hanover. At the international Bach-competition in Leipzig he was given the medal for participating in the final round of only six pianists and he was successfully reaching the semifinals at the Queen-Elisabeth-Competition in Brussels 2003. During the past years he was also awarded by the German Music Competiton twice (piano solo and chamber music) and was accomodated to the official list of young artist's concerts by the German Music Council.
Konrad Engel played concerts in the US, Japan and throughout Europe. His recitals for example at the "Bayreuther Festspiele" or the "Rheingau Music Festival" were highly applauded by the musical press. He played with renowned orchestras such as the Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia, the South German Philharmonic Orchestra and the Radio Symphony Orchestra Frankfurt. By playing in numerous ensembles since more than fifteen years he could establish an outstanding reputation as a chamber musician.
One of his passions is teaching. The systematic methodic experiences made during his studies with Prof. K.-H. Kämmerling and his engagement in psychological and physiological issues (for example during studies at the IMMM Hanover directed by Prof. Dr. med. Eckart Altenmüller) are flowing into his work as a music pedagogue. Since 2007 he is also the musical director and conductor of two chamber orchestras in the region of Hanover.
